About FAIR Plan Guide
FAIR Plan Guide helps homeowners keep their homes insured where wildfire, hurricanes and storms have made coverage hard to find or hard to afford. It explains each state's last-resort plans (FAIR plans, wind pools and Citizens plans), the rules insurers must follow when they drop you, and the discounts and grants for making a home harder to damage. It's an independent site supported by ads. We aren't an insurance company, agent or broker, we don't sell insurance, and we aren't affiliated with any plan, insurer or government agency.
How pages are checked
- We use only official sources: state insurance departments, state laws and regulations, the plans' own websites and filings, state grant programs, federal agencies such as FEMA, and the organizations that run programs like FORTIFIED and Firewise USA.
- Every paragraph links to the sources that support it. Dollar limits, notice periods, percentages and dates are checked against the source's exact wording.
- Each page gets a second, independent check before it's published, and shows the date it was last reviewed.
- We don't rank insurers or agents, and we don't use insurers' marketing, comparison sites or forums as sources.
What we can't do
Only your insurer, the plan or your state insurance department can tell you what your own policy covers or whether you qualify. Use these pages to understand your options, then confirm with them before you buy, cancel or sign anything.
